Some couples want to have very uncomplicated simple wedding celebrations with immediate family and a few close friends. Such a wedding was what Molly and Karim planned for July 3, 2009, the anniversary of their meeting. Molly is a professor at NCSU and Karim works for Lulu, Inc., a self-publishing book company in Raleigh.
At first they planned on getting married at the courthouse but realized that their families wanted to be present for the occasion and that could not be accommodated at a courthouse wedding. They were very excited to be getting married and were also in the process of buying a house together and hoping to be moved in so the ceremony could be there. They wanted a secular ceremony that was "short and sweet!" So, we made all the arrangements by email and snail mail. They moved into their house and managed to repaint the interior of the house to their liking only two weeks before the wedding. It was in a quiet neighborhood just inside the beltline and quite convenient to their work places.
I did not meet them until their wedding day. Karim's family was there from Durham and Molly's family came down from New York state. Everyone was eager to see them get married. Even one of their 3 cats walked down the aisle, obviously giving her approval of their union during the ceremony (see her in top photo)! We gathered in the living room which had been arranged with chairs for the guests. The couple and I stood in front of their large picture window as I performed the wedding ceremony. I welcomed the guests, recognized all the family members, they exchanged vows and rings and I pronounced them husband and wife! As the guests applauded, they kissed then everyone came forward to congratulate them. They plan on having a large reception on Sunday to celebrate with all their friends. Congratulations, Molly and Karim. May all your dreams come true!
