The Chapel was built around 1847 on a plantation in Gulf NC (Chatham County). It was built by slaves for the use of the family who owned the plantation, their visitors and their slaves. It was moved to Mordecai in 1978. There is a gallery loft but visitors are not permitted to sit there due to safety concerns.
The seating capacity is 55 and the chapel is heated and air-conditioned. The acoustics are wonderful and no amplification is needed. There is an old vintage-appropriate pump organ that is functional but to my knowledge has not been played in many years.
While the bride is getting ready in the green post office building close to the chapel, the family and wedding party are taking photos out front of the chapel. Our professional photographer was Allison with Wonderland Pictures and Fallon's Flowers provided the bouquets and boutonnieres.
Helping Jesus with his boutonniere!
The guests are all seated and the processional is forming.
Debbie, mother of the bride, is escorted in by her son Joe, who is also the best man.
The wedding party has now all entered and taken their places as the bride and her father Joe start their walk down the walkway into the chapel.
Kelly's father presented her to be married and she and Jesus stepped up onto the altar.
How pretty the sun is on Kelly's beautiful dress. Thankfully it is not shining in her eyes!
I think Jesus was a bit nervous but you can see that Kelly was really enjoying herself and in the moment!
I believe I am addressing the parents here. Unfortunately Jesus' parents could not be with us but we paid tribute to them.
They repeated their vows after me......Jesus first.
Then Kelly.....
Jesus places the ring on Kelly's finger and says "With this ring, I marry you and pledge my heart to you."
Kelly says the same to Jesus as she places the ring on his finger.
After I asked Kelly and Jesus to close their eyes and feel how happy they were at that moment, they opened their eyes and gazed around at their closest friends and family who were honoring them on their wedding day.
Finally--the pronouncement of marriage and they become husband and wife!
Sealed with a kiss!
The "after-kiss moment!"
And out they go to celebrate their new marriage!
